Music Therapy in Schools
Music therapy can be beneficial for children with special educational needs and disabilities, or emotional and behavioural difficulties, within both specialist and mainstream schools. Music therapy can take place either in one-to-one sessions or in small groups, and can work on a number of specific aims, depending on the needs and strengths of each individual pupil. No musical experience is needed and I have experience of working with non-verbal children. .
Music therapy can:
Help with developing communication skills, either one-to-one or in a group
Increase confidence
Provide an alternative form of communication (including for pupils unable to use spoken language)
Provide an alternative way to express difficult and complex emotions, and personal identity
Provide an enjoyable and creative experience
I can offer presentations / workshops about music therapy for staff, short term (3 - 6 months) pilot projects, and longer term music therapy contracts.
Please get in touch if you would like further information about setting up a music therapy service in your school.
