Hilary graduated from the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in July 2019, with a Masters degree in Music Therapy (with distinction), and is a HCPC registered Music Therapist. Hilary has worked for Nordoff Robbins East Scotland (with children with Additional Support Needs (learning disabilities, Autistic Spectrum Conditions and emotional/behavioural difficulties), adults with learning disabilities and in palliative care) and MHA (with people living with dementia). She is currently working freelance, including projects in hospice care, with neurodivergent (autistic) adults and children, and with adults with profound learning disabilities / complex needs.
Hilary co-ordinates the Autistic Spectrum Conditions (ASC) Network for the British Association of Music Therapy (BAMT) and is Secretary for the Wales Arts Therapies Advisory Forum (WATAF). She has presented her music therapy research at the BAMT Conference 2021, the BAMT Research Network and BAMT ASC Network, and will be presenting at the European Music Therapy Conference in 2022.
Hilary studied at the University of Cambridge (Gonville and Caius College), achieving BA (Hons) and MA (Cantab) degrees in Music, and prior to re-training as a music therapist, she worked for more than a decade as a teacher, performer and composer. She plays a number of instruments including flute, violin, piano, guitar and crwth (Welsh bowed lyre). Hilary has very eclectic musical interests, including contemporary classical music, early music, traditional and contemporary folk, jazz and free improvisation.
